Ammo Shipping Restrictions by State
Short answer: We ship ammunition to most of the contiguous United States. Four states need documents before we ship (Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, Rhode Island). We do not currently ship to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Massachusetts, New York or Washington D.C.

States we ship to without extra paperwork
All other states in the contiguous United States, subject to the federal age rules below and any local city or county restrictions. Colorado has an extra age rule, shown in the next table.
States where we ship after you send documents

Federal age rules
Federal law sets a minimum age of 21 to buy handgun ammunition from a licensed seller and 18 for rifle and shotgun ammunition. We apply these rules to every order, and some states require more. Our Age and Legal Requirements page explains how we verify age.
Cities and counties
Many cities and counties add their own limits on ammunition and certain bullet types. We may cancel and refund an order that cannot be shipped lawfully to your address. See our Terms and Conditions.

Frequently asked questions
Which states does Liberty Ammo not ship ammunition to?
We do not ship ammunition to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Massachusetts, New York, Washington D.C. and U.S. territories. We also do not ship to Chicago or other cities that ban ammunition sales.
Which states need documents before my ammo ships?
Connecticut, Illinois (outside Chicago and other banned cities), New Jersey and Rhode Island. We ask for a copy of the required permit or ID before we ship.
Does Colorado have an age rule for buying ammo?
Yes. Colorado raised the minimum age to buy ammunition from 18 to 21 on July 1, 2026, and carriers must check the recipient's age at delivery.
Can I buy ammo online in California or New York?
Both states generally require ammunition bought online to go through a licensed in-state dealer. Liberty Ammo does not currently ship to either state.
What if my city or county has its own ammo rules?
Local rules apply on top of state rules. We cannot ship to places where the sale or delivery is prohibited, and we may cancel an order that would break a local law.
